I feel like I haven’t blogged here in ages. I have 2 computers on on my desk right now. My Mac and my work PC. I’ve been working since 8:30am, took a break and went to the Doc, and then home to work some more, ate some dinner and another break, and finally done at 8:30pm. The workload has been getting crazy! That is all. I didn’t even exercise and contemplating doing some pilates.
Other than that I feel so bad I haven’t been blogging on my other sites, Shopaholix (sorry, Star! I know I said I was going to post something up) and being as active on sites I frequent. I hope y’all understand!
I can’t wait until next weekend when I’ll be in NYC, hanging out with good people and eating good food. I can’t wait to take random pictures of the city and just taking it all in because I took NYC for granted when I lived there.
I finished my first piece of clothing last Sunday and I don’t know if I could actually wear this out. My mom looked at it and said I kind of messed up on the sleeves. Oh well. I learned different techniques making it. I have so much fabric on my sewing desk I won’t be getting anything new for a while. Sewing is so much fun, and it’s teaching me lots about being patient.
Yup, me looking fugly as usual.

There is so much stuff I wanna do, so little time! I guess we’ve all been there, right?
So today I actually made something without going to the class. I was anxious so I asked my mom if I could use her sewing machine and she helped me set it up. I think her sewing machine is pretty easy to use and has everything I need for the most part. I decided to try something simple and make a headband with this free pattern I found here, and this piece of fabric I got at Jo-Ann a couple weeks ago. To tell you the truth, I thought the instructions were pretty difficult to understand and my mom told me, “when you sew, you really have to be patient.” I admit that I was not so patient and kind of cranky cuz I hate making mistakes, but I didn’t give up and I finished what I started. Another thanks to my mom who helped me figure out how to put the elastic in the headband and voila! A cute polka dot headband.
Click pictures to enlarge if you dare. I look weird.
So I had my first sewing class yesterday and I admit I was kind of nervous, considering I never even touched a sewing machine! It actually wasn’t so bad and I think I got the hang of it pretty quickly. We practiced on different fabrics, did straight stitching, and a couple different techniques such as stitching around a square and a circle. The circle one wasn’t so bad on the muslin fabric than it was on felt. I messed up but all good.
After the class I decided that I wanted to continue and take the next class, which is picking out a pattern and choosing fabric I want and cut out the pattern. We stopped by Jo-Ann’s and spent an awful time there (good thing I have my iPhone to keep Glen entertained) while I was looking for patterns and the fact that it was 5 patterns for $5 I had to take advantage and pick. The one pattern I wanted to use for my first project wasn’t on sale so I got that one too. Then I had to look for the right fabric which took a while. I ended up getting the fabric you see below which is 100% cotton.
When I got home I started looking at some blogs where people show off their creations, a lot of stuff that is refashioned (recreated something they already have) and it inspired me! We’re such slaves to consumerism and buying clothes that are mass produced! Not saying that I want to completely get away from buying stuff and make everything myself, but as much as possible just create my own stuff with what’s lying around. Some great sites like Threadbanger and Wardrobe Refashion totally inspire me to keep going at this. Eventually I want my own sewing machine, but I need to figure out which one I want, the best value with features that I can grow with.
